Haute couture
Haute Couture is a French phrase for high fashion. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute means elegant or high, so the two combined imply excellent artistry with the fashioning of garments. In modern France, haute couture is a "protected name" that can be used only by firms that meet certain well-defined standards. However, the term is also used loosely to describe all high-fashion custom-fitted clothing, whether it is produced in Paris or in other fashion capitals such as Milan, London etc. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques.
High earner not rich yet (HENRY)
This refers to a buzzword coined in a 2003 Fortune Magazine article referring to families earning between $250,000 to $500,000 but not having much left after taxes, schooling, housing and family costs.
High net worth individual (HNI)
This refers to a classification used by the financial services industry to denote an individual or family with high net worth. The cutoff for this designation is imprecise.
High street
A popular shopping area characterized by high rentals and premium brands e.g. Linking Road in Mumbai or Commercial Street in Bangalore.
High-involvement purchases
Purchases that involve high expenditure or personal risk – for example buying jewelry, a car or making investments that require greater evaluation.
High-low pricing
Method of pricing for an organization where the goods or services offered by the organization are regularly priced higher than competitors, but through promotions, advertisements, and or coupons, lower prices are offered on key items. The lower promotional prices are designed to bring customers to the organization where the customer is offered the promotional product as well as the regular higher priced products.
Hub and spoke
A store expansion strategy which requires setting up of flagship stores or ‘hubs’ in key markets and then expanding to smaller markets in neighboring areas.
Relating to or focused on a very small geographical community e.g. a neighbourhood.
