Nike loses Virat Kohli as brand ambassador
Posted On: 04-09-2013 00:00:00 13

In 2008, Nike signed a five-year contract with Virat Kohli that ran till 2013 and was extendable by one year. At the end of the 5 year period, Kohli chose not to extend the contract with Nike which the company labeled a breach of contract. Now, the Karnataka high court has ruled in favor Kohli, allowing him to pursue endorsement contracts with other sports brands if he so wishes. The judge gave an order saying that Kohli had terminated the contract with Nike correctly and therefore no case is made out. This is a big loss for Nike - as a sports brand it hurts to lose a player who could potentially go on to become captain of the Indian cricket team.
