Markets see a slow down
Posted On: 04-11-2011 00:00:00 11

Food inflation hit a nine-month high of 12.21 % in the week ended October 22. It rose 11.43 % the previous week. It stood at 9.72 % in September. The Reserve Bank of India has increased interest rates 13 times since March 2010 to tame runaway inflation. Given poor sentiment globally and a high rate of inflation, retailers are preparing for a slowdown in sales and are bracing for the inventory pile ups that invariably follow. Next, the electronics chain, has reported a 15% increase in Diwali sales as against 40% in the previous year. As a response, retailers are taking measures to keep costs down. Croma has reported a shift to more cost effective media like radio and bus hoardings as against print advertisements.
