Report: E-retailers see faster growth with cash-on-delivery
Posted On: 21-02-2012 00:00:00 12

The primary concern of the online shopper is the security of credit card or banking data provided for an online purchase. Even the veracity of certain e-commerce sites is at stake. Each of these issues is conveniently dealt with by offering the option of cash-on-delivery. These are the opinions that emerged at the recent e-Retail Congress 2012. Gaurav Marya, President of Franchise India Holdings supported the cash-on-delivery (COD) option. Of the 670 cities from where regular buyers shop online, the active buyers are only from 230 cities, where the e-retailer has to make the buying experience flexible. Ishita Swaroop of 99 labels also supported the proposition of offering COD option. She gave the example of China, where 80% e-commerce companies were surviving because of this. Ambareesh Murthy, Founder of Pepperfry saw COD only as a short term issue, before fully converting to the convenience of online payments. A report by Franchise India has assessed the worth of e-commerce in India in 2011 to be at Rs 46,520 crore, with e-retailing itself comprising Rs 2,700 crore in 2011.
