The mega online retailer Amazon.com is checking out physical format retail stores. As per reports in the media, a trial store is being launched near its headquarters in Seattle, USA. It is likely to be a boutique store for selling Amazon’s Kindle products, range of books and other exclusives. It is being speculated that the move could be because Amazon’s competitors, including Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Indigo, have all refused to stock books from the retailer’s Amazon Publishing division. Another factor being speculated is that Amazon was emulating Apple’s example, where the retail store exclusively for its iPads, iPhones, iPods and Macintosh computers, met with a huge success.
Amazon already has a physical store for its Quidsi brand. Located in an upscale shopping mall in New York, the Quidsi’s Beauty Bar store includes a ‘Blow Dry Bar’ for hair and a ‘Treatment Room’ where customers can get facials, peels and waxing services.
