SPAR looking for licensing partners to double footprint
Posted On: 19-01-2012 00:00:00 12

SPAR International, the $37billion Dutch retail giant, is looking for licensing partners to expand its footprint in the Indian market. SPAR has tied up with the Dubai based Landmark group for its hypermarket foray. Spar did not have a smooth entry into the Indian markets with having to break off its earlier JV with Shetties of Radhakrishna Foodland. At present there are 10 SPAR hypermarkets in India, and plans are to double this in the next fiscal by March 2013. The 10 new stores will require an investment of nearly Rs52.64crore and will comprise hypermarket and supermarket formats in India. Currently, the company operates 10 hypermarket stores under the ĎMax Hypermarketí brand in India. Three new stores will open within this FY in Pune, Vijayawada and Bangalore. In view of shortage of real estate, SPAR will also focus on opening supermarket formats in the range of 1,000-1,500 sqft.
