Wal-Mart cash and carry to launch by March
Posted On: 04-11-2008 08:32:10 AM

Wal-Mart will start its first cash and carry store in Ludhiana in the first quarter of 2009. Simultaneously, Bharti Enterprises is also working on plans to launch its second retail format - 40,000 sq ft mid-format stores in December. The company already operates a chain of 12 small format neighborhood stores under the brand Easy Day, all in Punjab. Bharti group has clarified that the group’s roll-out plans had not been impacted by the on-going slump. Bharti had entered into the joint venture with Wal-Mart in December 2006 to setting up cash & carry stores in India. It had also signed up Wal-Mart as the technical collaborator for the front-end retail venture.
