Online purchases is expected to go up by over 100% from Rs 700-800 crore last year to Rs 1,300-1,400 crore this year and a huge part of it is expected to happen during festive times. Indiaplaza saw a jump of 200% in sales last year and expects the figure to double this time. Consumer durables form a major 40% of the total sales in value, followed by electronics at 20%, jewelry another 20% and the rest is contributed by sweets and gift hampers. At the same time HomeShop 18, the 24/7 virtual shopping channel from the TV 18 group launched around a year back, is now registering 3,000 to 4,000 new customers on a daily basis. The company is concluding transaction every 22 seconds on an average, recording a 50% month on month growth in sales and has recorded total sales of Rs 2.5 crore in the weekend before last. To encourage customers to buy, the channel takes a 25% default rate (people changing their minds at the time product delivery after placing orders) and also offers a money back offer within 15 days if the customer is dissatisfied.
