Posted On: 29-08-2008 07:15:22 AM

Consumers can expect duty-free imports of a range of products like capital goods, some textiles, electronic goods and chemicals from next year after India successfully concluded negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) for goods with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in Singapore. The formal pact will be signed this December at the India-Asean summit at Bangkok, and will be implemented from Jan 1, 2009. The breakthrough comes after six years of negotiations for the trade pact.
